ANA-California has launched a confidential, 10-minute assessment to capture how LGBTQIA+ equity shows up—or doesn’t—across nursing workplaces.
We’re asking nursing staff and leadership to share their experiences and perspectives to inform statewide policy recommendations that protect and support LGBTQIA+ nurses.
Federal threats to LGBTQIA+ rights and DEI initiatives are growing. Many health institutions want to support LGBTQIA+ nurses and patients—but fear public backlash. We’re here to help them act with courage and data.
By completing this assessment, you help us:
Benchmark current practices
Identify gaps in inclusion and safety
Develop realistic policy recommendations for health institutions
In June 2023, ANA\California launched its LGBTQIA+ Equity in Nursing Campaign with 2024 Advocacy Institute Fellow Dr. Bri DuBose, and deepened its commitment through:
The formation of our LGBTQIA+ Equity Taskforce (Jan 2024)
Selection of 2025 Fellow Misty Cahoon (Oct 2024)
24 months of collaboration across nurse leaders, subject matter experts, advocates, and equity organizations
We built this assessment to evaluate institutional and individual perspectives on:
Do staff and leaders understand LGBTQIA+ terminology?
Are conversations and reporting channels safe and supported?
Is LGBTQIA+ representation reflected in hiring and leadership?
Are microaggressions, bias, and inequities being addressed meaningfully?
It’s time to gather data that drives impact.
Covers 10 Key Concepts of LGBTQIA+ health equity
