DNP Project Survey: Assessing the effects of de-escalation training on nurses’ confidence levels in managing aggressive patients

Greetings, my name is Christina Bynums and I am a Doctor of Nursing practice (DNP) student at Georgia State University. I am conducting an education project to assess the effects of de-escalation training on nurses’ confidence levels in managing aggressive patients.

I am recruiting individuals who meet all these criteria:

  1. Licensed registered nurse in either New York or Georgia
  2. Must be a member of Georgia Nurses Association or American Nurses Association- New York division.
  3. Must read, write, and comprehend English.
  4. Must be 18 and older.

If you decide to participate in this study, you will be asked to do the following:

  1. Complete the pre-assessment survey. The survey will be the Confidence in Coping with Patient Aggression Instrument by Thackrey. This survey will take 5 minutes to complete and will have 10 questions about confidence in handling aggressive patients.
  2. Click the link for the PowerPoint presentation. The presentation will contain slides with audio and videos to accompany the de-escalation techniques. This will take 50 minutes to complete.
  3. After completing the PowerPoint there will be a link to the post survey. The Confidence in Coping with Patient Aggression Instrument will be used as a post-survey to measure if confidence levels in managing patients with aggressive behavior has changed after learning de-escalation techniques.

There will be no compensation for your participation in this study. Your participation in this study is voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time. You may skip questions and stop participating at any time.
