The Board of Regents met this week and discussed the adoption of an emergency regulation related to the regulations related to nursing education. These are the notes from that meeting:
Proposed Amendment of Section 64.1 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Relating to Education Requirements for Licensure as a Registered/Practical Nurse [PPC (A) 1 – Revised] - Department staff presented proposed emergency amendments to Part 64.1 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education relating to education for licensure as a registered professional nurse or licensed practical nurse. The amendments are required to ensure that applicants who complete education in another state or country meet equivalent standards to safeguard the health and safety of the public.
The Committee recommends that section 64.1 of the Commissioner’s Regulations be amended, as submitted, effective April 18, 2023, as an emergency action, upon the finding by the Board of Regents that such action is necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety, and general welfare in order to immediately permit the Department to reject out-of-state nursing programs approved in the original jurisdiction if a nursing program is determined to be unsatisfactory to the department.
The motion passed unanimously.
