Announcing ANA-NY Special Interest Groups!

01 March 2023

To ANA-NY Members:

ANA-NY is always looking for new activities that support your personal interests, professional growth, and engagement. There is a new opportunity for you to be involved in ANA-NY that does not involve running for the Board or serving on a Board Committee! Starting this spring—ANA-NY will be starting Special Interest Groups (SIG) for members.

Any ANA-NY member can propose a focus area for a SIG by completing the interest form linked here. The member should describe the specific focus, some suggested goals, the desire to be a Lead or Co-lead for the SIG—or give names of others who would and an intent to be part of the SIG.

Click here to review the proposal approved by the ANA-NY Board that gives additional details.

Three members have already come forward to start SIGs based on the discussion at the ANA-NY Annual meeting last October, and other members have come forward to lead two additional groups.

  • One SIG will involve nurses who work with the intellectually and developmentally disabled population to discuss ideas for better care by removing barriers to nursing care and reimbursement.

  • One SIG will gather nurses who are interested in climate change and its impact on health to propose strategies that nursing can implement to have a positive impact.

  • One SIG will gather nurses who want to learn more about policy and advocacy to discuss the details of the policy and political process and learn more about the ANA-NY Legislation Committee activities.

  • One SIG will gather nurses who are interested in advancing the profession of nursing through igniting compassion for nurses.

  • One SIG will gather nurses who are interested in the technological advances happening in the nursing practice with a focus in innovation and informatics.

Click here to sign up for one of these SIGs.

So, what is your passion? What would you like to learn more about by engaging with other nurses who have some expertise in that area? What initiatives can ANA-NY members move forward to positively impact health care and nursing? Let us know. If you have ideas but do not have contact with others in that specialty—we can help.
