American Nurses Advocacy Institute Kicks Off in Washington, D.C.

13 September 2024

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is excited to share that the American Nurses Advocacy Institute (ANAI) program is underway in Washington D.C., September 8-10, 2024. This unique and intensive program convenes ANA members from across the nation and aims to enhance nurses' political competence, advocacy skills, and leadership in the legislative process, empowering them to be effective advocates for their profession, patients and the health care community.

ANAI is a year-long initiative that provides participants invaluable experience in coalition building, political action and media engagement. During ANAI, participants learn from ANA leaders, seasoned advocates, and experienced mentors to develop the skills necessary to become influential state leaders.

Key Program Benefits:

  • Enhanced Advocacy Skills: Participants will build their political competence and learn to advocate effectively for policies that benefit nursing.
  • Experience with Coalition Building: Gain exposure to coalitions, media engagement, and political action committees to amplify and communicate advocacy efforts.
  • Mentorship from Expert Advocates: Benefit from mentorship and guidance from experienced leaders within ANA and the state-level constituent and state nurses associations (C/SNA).

Nurses regularly answer the call to protect this nation’s health and safety, from rural towns to urban centers. With nearly 5 million nurses nationwide, there is power in nurses’ voices. This program equips nurses with the tools and knowledge they need to become strong advocates in the legislative space.
